Disability Awareness Training Workshops

Deb Whitecross Enterprises (DWE) takes a fresh look at presenting material that relates to people with a disability. Generally, when people hear the word 'disability' they automatically think of wheelchairs, ramps, 'disabled toilets' and 'disabled parking'. Each of these responses is specific to mobility impairments and infrastructure issues. Although DWE training takes participants through the mobility and infrastructure considerations of 'Universal Access', it does not dominate the presentation. The training will investigate all aspects of the most common disabilities and related issues and not allow one type of disability or impairment to dominate the presentation. It will be an informative, useful, holistic training session with a bit of fun thrown into the mix.

Over the years, Deb Whitecross has organised and facilitated many Disability Awareness Training sessions and other events, expos, community consultations, public launches and forums. In October 2009, Deb facilitated the two day annual HACC conference in Hall's Gap for approximately 80 attendees. The facilitation included Disability Awareness Training session, speed networking and assertiveness training as well as introducing guest speakers, keeping all activities to time and to task and ensuring all guests had a worthwhile and enjoyable experience.

More recently, Deb presented a Disability Awareness Workshop at the Manningham City Council which was very well received. The MetroAccess worker even commented, “I can’t believe how much I learnt today – I thought I knew a lot, thank you so much”. DWE is contracted to undertake ongoing Disability Awareness Training with disability agencies, neighbourhood houses, councils and hospitals in Melbourne and regional areas.

DWE provides several options to 'mix and match' to suit your specific needs. Unless disability is your agency's core business, we would recommend that there is no need to provide more than a three hour session. Each option would include a Quiz which covers the majority of disability related issues. Download our complete Disability Awareness Training options flyer

Summary of DWE

Deb Whitecross Enterprises (DWE) is a specialist service that focusses on writing strategic plans of all types and delivering team building initiatives. Deb's experience has been most recently in the area of disability but the skills she possesses are transferable to any industry and especially those that depend on community input through consultation. She has developed a model of review that is unique and captures qualitative as well as quantitative data. This review process can be tailored to suit the different needs of any organisation.
Deb is a natural communicator and is regularly asked to present information to large groups or facilitate meetings, workshops or conferences. Her communication style is 'accessible for all' and peppered with humour. The combination of her writing skills and her use of non-jargonised language has helped her to create many resources, booklets and guides that are written in a way that anyone can understand - catering for the average literacy levels of the general public, through to people with an intellectual disability.
DWE is adaptable and flexible enough to deliver or tailor their services to suit anyone's strategic needs with creativity and sensitivity to any situation. Deb has a talented team of people available who are specialists in their field who support the company to provide the very best service possible in a cost effective manner.
DWE will always keep up with the local community trends or directions and put to good use the positive outcomes of being an experienced, community development worker.
Listed below are some of the skilled areas that DWE have been concentrating on recently.

Effective communication workshops

Whilst businesses and individuals become busier, more stressed and the electronic means of communication has become a way of life - communication , the old fashioned way seems to have taken a backward step. Ineffective communication can lead to a raft of issues in the workplace, socially and at home and potentialy lead to frustration, anger and disharmony. DWE can deliver a workshop to suit your environment to improve communications and concentrate on assertive, clear and effective outcomes in a very practical and 'no nonsense' manner.

Do you need an experienced facilitator for your next planning session?
